Stam SA4000 Compressor Review

I have always been a fan of that SSL style bus compressor glue. Ever since I had the chance to work on a beautiful SSL 4000 G+ console back in my days at SAE in NYC, I have been on the hunt for something that comes close to sounding just as good. I found myself settling with the waves plugin strapped across my mixbus. When I updated to the slate everything bundle I replaced my waves SSL Bus Comp with Slates “Grey”. I preferred the Slate plugin because of its added features but still wasn’t sold on the sound quality.

That’s when I found the Stam Audio SA4000.

A friend of mine had just gotten one in his studio and it blew me away. He hit the button and I immediately knew I would be adding this to my rig. The stereo imaging, the low-end response and the overall glue this thing provides are unmatched to any plugin I have gotten my hands on.

In fact, to prove it, I made a side by side comparison of all them against the Stam unit.

So if you’re in the market for a really affordable SSL style bus compressor or just an amazing compressor in general, you can’t possibly go wrong with this Stam SA4000. Throw it across your mixbus and you will be blown away by how your mixes come to life. Don’t just take my word for it.

Listen to the audio files of this thing and be blown away!
